Ainol (Ainovo) Novo 7 Paladin - Low Price Android 4.0 (ICS) Tablets 2012

Ainovo took the world by storm last year when it was announced they were releasing a sub-$100 tablet. And if that was not enough, it would be one of the first tablets to run Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0). However, the tablet was no where to be found until now. The tablet that made an in person appearance at CES will only cost you $89 for a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich.

The Best Tablet PC 2011 and what to expect in 2012

The Best Tablet PC 2011 and what to expect in 2012

Here we will take a look at the inbetweeners that blipped our radar, the losers that sunk and the tablets still standing in the wake of what 2011 left behind and what 2012 will bring to the table.

The Winners

1. Asus EeePad Transformer

Finally, innovation done right. Was the Asus EeePad Transformer the thinnest tablet of 2011? Did it have the slickest UI, best battery life or indeed the most internal storage? The answer to all the aforementioned is a resounding no, however the Asus Transformer EeePad Transformer isn't just a tablet, it's a netbook too. With the world of tech bidding the short-lived reign of the netbook farewell, many analysts would have probably tried to dissuade Asus from making their EeePad Transformer quite so foldable, however the companies conviction and ability to churn out innovative, premium hardware propelled the dual-core Tegra 2 powered device to the top of the Android tablet tables. Adding an air of productivity to an otherwise self-indulgent genre, having reviewed and used one for the majority of the year, we can certainly attest to the copious amount of functionality added by the keyboard dock - not least of all in terms of the additional 8 hours of battery life, two USB ports, full sized SD card slot and full-sized chicklet QWERTY keyboard with track-pad. Crowned by many, including Trusted Reviews as the king of gadgets 2011, we would argue that the Asus EeePad Transformer is the best tablet out there in terms of productivity and functionality.

2. Amazon Kindle Fire

Showing everyone exactly where the balance between affordability, quality and brand power lies, the Amazon Kindle Fire has been one of the real winners of 2011, at least in the States. Yet to land on home turf, across the pond the $199 tablet sales are topping a million units per week proving that despite no access to the Android Market and the 500k apps it bears, users are happy to compromise in order to get an affordable tablet with tight Amazon integration on board. Amazon's proprietary user interface certainly lacks polish, but with a dual-core OMAP processor and 8GB of internal storage as well as decent capacitive display, given the solid physical specs, the fire will grow from strength to strength, with software updates on track to remedy the user experience woes. Due out in the UK in January 2012 at an unconfirmed price, we'd expect to see it retail for £179-£199 to compete with the likes of the Kobo Vox.

3. Apple iPad 2

Old faithful. In a genre overrun by meh, the Apple iPad 2 is the one tablet that in our opinion, offers a truly complete developed tablet experience and ecosystem for the average user, no accessories required. It's thin, it's light, it's smooth, it's solid and and it's simple. Apps look great, the A5 processor motors everything along nicely and there's no questioning its success. All it takes is a train journey through the heart of London and you're likely to see at least 5 commuters lost in their 9.7-inch portals. With reasonable pricing starting at £399, storage options available as well as Wi-Fi and 3G models on the market, whether you're looking to swipe and pan while watching TV, share content on the IPS display or keep up to speed with the latest current affairs to and from work, you won't get a more refined experience than on an iPad.

Notable Mention: Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

The iPad of the Androids, for anyone looking for a lithe, powerful tab, isn't too fussed on typing and is heavily sold into the Android ecosystem, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is the only real contender. Boasting a much slinkier chassis than the Asus EeePad Transformer, a bright, bold 10.1-inch display and some nifty accessories from Samsung in the form of a handy keyboard dock and super-skinny case, the Tab 10.1 proves that Android tablets can be standalone great. Loaded with Samsung's TouchWiz for extra user-friendliness, with some of the really handy features found on the Samsung Galaxy S2 such as Music Hub adding 7 Digital integration and Reading Hub with Kobo, Zinio and Press Reader on board, the Tab 10.1 arrives on users doorsteps and hits the ground running. While the majority of 2011 was spent trying to convince courts it didn't rip off the iPad, despite delayed launches and legal battles nothing can take away from the fact that the experience when using the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is exceptional.

The Inbetweeners

1. Motorola XOOM

As the seminal Honeycomb tablet, we both expected great things from the Motorola XOOM and at the same time were prepared to make allowances for teething problems associated with the operating system in general. Paving the way for all Honeycomb tablets up to this day, on the Motorola XOOM is where we first saw the now ubiquitous 10.1 inch display coupled with 1280x800 resolution, as well as 1GHz dual-core tablet processor - features that have pervaded through to next-gen tablets. That said, the Motorola XOOM was decidedly mediocre for a tablet that cost more than an iPad, with a then inferior OS, screen and app selection. After the release of other Android tablets, offering far less bulk and more affordability, it became clear that the Motorola XOOM had missed a trick, settling itself firmly in the mediocre camp despite its stake as first on market.

2. Acer’s Iconia Tab A500

Despite delivering a solid spec-sheet virtually identical to almost every other Honeycomb tablet released in 2011, the Acer Iconia Tab A500 was one of those solid tabs with no stand-out points and some pretty disappointing battery life. It did offer a reasonable price when compared with the XOOM, however, when compared with its biggest rival, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, with its foldable rather than mountable keyboard dock,it was inferior in every way.

3. Motorola XOOM 2

In the face of our criticism of the Motorola XOOM, the second coming, the XOOM 2 also landed in 2011 and improved upon many features that left the original looking so lacklustre in the face of the competition. Thinner, more powerful, additional ports, the Motorola XOOM 2 would have been a corker if it was released at the beginning of the year. Released internationally in the same month as the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime in the States, the Motorola XOOM 2 shows off less cores, less keyboard and less USPs in general. Sure, the inclusion of the IR port on the top end of the XOOM 2 and great note taking integration, not to mention super-fast web-browsing are pros, but with a yellowy palour to the screen and a design that just doesn't feel as refined as the competition, we're back to the mediocre camp for the Motorola XOOM series.

Notable mention: HTC Flyer

Speaking of tabs that lag behind the crowd, one tablet that epitomises Android's fragmentation and lengthy update time-frames is the HTC Flyer. Measuring 7-inches and rocking a stylus for all those pen-centrics who miss the Windows mobile resistive charm of old, the HTC Flyer is perhaps most renowned as the tablet that made us wait. Force feeding us Gingerbread when all we wanted was Honeycomb it took over seven months for the HTC Flyer to get the version of Android many feel it should have been released with. That said, the Flyer offered solid performance even with Gingerbread and a more portable size, mixing up the good and the bad and landing the HTC Flyer in the inbetweeners camp - not quite great.

3.ViewSonic ViewPad 7e

If there's ever been a product that proves scrimping too much on quality to get the lowest price is a bad idea, the ViewPad 7e is it. Priced at £150, what the ViewPad 7e lacks in cost it makes up for in shortcomings. Pitched against the Kobo Vox eReader and upcoming Kindle Fire, despite some pretty strong competition, it still marches full steam ahead into 2012 with a resistive touch-screen, poor battery life, dated version of Android and an exceptionally poor 3-megapixel rear facing camera. If the Fire and Vox prove anything it's that quality and affordability can indeed go hand in hand, so in the face of a generation of premium product bargain-hunters, the ViewSonic ViewPad 7e fails to make the grade, feeling at least 2 years behind the curb.

2012 Predictions

f you're holding off buying or upgrading your tablet until 2012, there are a few things you should know:

The Asus EeePad Transformer Prime is coming and its going to blow all other Android tablets out of the water, at least until the inevitable slew of quad-core Android tablets are unveiled from other manufacturers, probably this January at CES and February at MWC.

We will likely see a new Samsung Galaxy Tab, with many rumours suggesting it will boast an 11 inch high resolution display and a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor. Will we see an update to their 8.9 / 7-inch tabs there too? Who knows but if the success of the Kindle Fire is anything to go by, we probably will, along with a lot more 7-inch slates.

Google Nexus Tab. One of the major criticisms of Honeycomb is the lack of optimised apps. That fact coupled with a statement from Eric Schmidt when interviewed by an Italian newspaper earlier this week could well suggest mid 2012 will bring a Google tablet to the market, propagating the values of a stock Android experience in the tablet space as the Nexus line has done with Android phones.

iPad 3. While technically we don't know anything about the iPad 3 for certain, we are nevertheless expecting to see one next year. With technical specs suggested to include a retina display provided by Sharp and a slightly thicker casing to accommodate for this, one area that remains shrouded in mystery is the processor. Will the iPad 3 get the A5 chip of old or the fabled A6? We can expect to hear more in spring 2012. There have also been rumours circulating of an iPad Mini measuring in at 7.85-inches to dampen the Kindle Fire's flame.

Windows 8 tablets are on their way and Samsung and Nokia look like they will be playing ball. Expected to land half way through 2012, Microsoft's Windows is seeing an OS unification bringing a version of Metro UI akin to that found on Windows Phone itself on to the Windows tablet.

Top 10 latest upcoming android tablets

Top 10 latest upcoming Android tablets List:-

1) Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1-inch

Although it was a little clunkier in the hands than Apple’s first gen offering, the Samsung Galaxy Tab was the closest thing to a rival for the iPad in 2010.

With newly launched Galaxy S II phone stealing some of the impending iPhone 5’s thunder, thanks to its impressive hardware and wafer-thin design, it’s time for Samsung to unveil its bigger brother - the Tab 10.1.

More than just an update of the original tablet, the redesign boasts a dual-core processor (currently expected to run at 1GHz, but - like the Galaxy S II - an overclock to match competitors is feasible before launch) and an ultra-sharp 1280x800-pixel screen that will be ideal for 720p HD gaming.

It’s reportedly even slimmer than the iPad 2, which is seriously impressive, and Samsung’s ultra vivid and warm Super AMOLED screen technology gives a real boost to gaming.

On aesthetics and hardware alone, the Tab 10.1 is going to knock most people’s socks off once they see it in action, so keep your wallet handy for a safe spot in the pre-order queue.

2) Asus Eee Pad Transformer :-

ust looking at the screen, you’d be hard pushed to spot any obvious differences between Asus’s 2011 products than the rest of the Android tablet brigade.

Where the Taiwanese hardware giant differs from the likes of Samsung, though, is its desire to bridge the gap between Netbooks and tablets.

A device of two halves, the Transformer blends the typing convenience of a physical keyboard with a generous 10.1-inch tablet. The trick is that they can be easily detached, with the screen functioning perfectly even if you prefer to leave the keyboard at home or in the office.

Reportedly, both halves come with their own power packs, offering eight hours of juice apiece. And if you’re using your tablet more and need a fill-up, the keyboard’s power can be used to recharge the screen. Very handy.

There’s dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor on-board combined with GeForce graphics for super sharp gaming, and a choice of either 16GB or 32GB of storage built-in.

3) Sony S1/2 Tablet:-

Sony’s gaming business has, understandably, taken a PR whack for the hack attack on PSN but that won’t keep the old warhorse down - as this pair of pretty unique, PlayStation-branded tablets testify.

The S1’s 9.4-inch screen comes up short of most rivals but it’s presumably been shaped to suit the device’s somewhat daring design.

Not dissimilar to a magazine folded back on itself, Sony claims the, “off-centre of gravity design offers ease of grip as well as a sense of stability and lightness”.

Sounds interesting, if reminiscent of the marketing spiel for a new tennis racket, but it could overcome the ‘achy-thumb’ issue tablet gaming causes some players.

It has two 5.5-inch displays that can be folded into each other to create a clam shell shape for storage, or used as one giant 11-inch display.

While they make lack the appealing physical controls of the Xperia Play for gamers, it’s interesting to see Sony pulling out the stops to innovate with its new products rather than go for straight iPad imitation.

Rest assured, though - the Tegra 2 dual-core processors and Honeycomb on board each device will ensure they stay competitive.

4) Motorola XOOM 2:-
Like a lot of the internet, we’re going out on a limb the size of an orangutan’s arm with this one, but a Xoom follow-up could be with us as early as this summer.

That’s not the most exciting part, though. That’s reserved for the possible inclusion of a bleeding-edge quad-core processor.

Current chipset stars Nvidia has gone on record saying they expect to be putting the Tegra 3 processor into tablets late summer 2011, with current dual-core brand leader Motorola heavily tipped to be the launch partner.

Although the firm has vehemently denied gossip that it will stop shipping the Xoom in June, the possibility of a successor driven by four cores of processing megapower is a mouth watering proposition for Android fans holding out for a new hero to champion.

With Tegra 3 (aka Kal-EL) apparently tripling graphics performance over the current generation of Nvidia chips, and capable of running full HD video at 1920x1200-pixels (1080p), it would be a portable powerhouse for running movies and the very latest games at ultra sharp resolutions.

There’s actual drool on this writer’s keyboard at such a prospect, but don’t let a little geeky salivation put you off getting hyped up for a genuine iPad beater. Just don’t be surprised if, based on previous Motorola form, the price tag is as dizzying as those specs.

5) HTC Puccini:-

Forget the single-core 7-inch Flyer and its dated Froyo OS (yes, Honeycomb is promised but HTC is hardly renowned for speedy software roll outs), the ten-inch Puccini is shaping up to be the firm’s real iPad beater.

Although not officially unveiled, rendered shots of the sizeable tablet and some tasty tech specs have started leaking out that suggest Honeycomb will sensibly be baked into this tempting tablet.

It’s also expected to support HTC's Scribe pen input technology, which - unless you’re blessed with my sub-trainee doctor scrawl - should make a doddle of dashing off documents, or laying out intricate plane-paths in Flight Control.

Rumour has it the Puccini (hopefully a code name, otherwise it could easily be confused with a Porcini mushroom) will be compatible with 4G networks too - a major boon for US users but less so for us snail-paced 3G hampered Brits.

Expect more on this device, such as the crucial question of core numbers, once HTC is officially ready to unveil it.

6) Lenovo Android ThinkPad Tablet:-

Lenovo easily walks away with the clunkiest, blandest, least inspirational tablet name award, but substance has always been for important than style to the Chinese firm.

Chances are, if you work for a large company you’ve encountered a Lenovo laptop. They’re generally black, shapeless, and have all the elegance of Lindsey Lohan getting out of a limo, yet they’re also sturdy and more reliable than the speaking clock.

Thin metaphors aside, Lenovo products are comparatively cheap, mostly cheerless but always functional, and this trend looks set to continue with the 10.1-inch ThinkPad Tablet.

Although it’s ditching reliable but dreary best pal Windows for its chic new Android buddy Honeycomb, Lenovo is reluctant to abandon some of its PC values.

For example, the ThinkPad Tablet will come with a stylus and an Asus EEE Transformer-style keyboard dock to make it another solid choice for travelling office bods looking for Netbook alternatives.

The Tegra 2 chipset means it’s gamer-friendly too, but it’s clear that Lenovo is making a tactical play for the business market with an attractive but typically unexciting design.

7) BlackBerry PlayBook:-

‘BlackBerry, doesn’t it just use its own, OS - one that’s hardly renowned for its gaming prowess?’ you might tactfully enquire upon seeing the Playbook on this Android-centric list.

The thing is, while RIM is reluctant to ditch its functional operating system it would severely limit the appeal of the company’s first tablet.

Gamers in particular would be hard pressed to find many nuggets of joy available on the BlackBerry app store.

Wisely, then, the 7-inch Playbook allows you to run RIM’s own software - including its handy ‘Word to Go’ word processor and Flash-friendly browser - but, from later this summer, a wide selection of Android apps through a smooth emulation system, called Android Wrapper.

A question mark hangs over gaming performance, which has yet to be tested, but the 7-inch screen, dual-core processor, and well-reviewed touchscreen suggest only the most demanding titles could be a problem.

8) Toshiba Tablet:-

For those who like their tablets to stand out from the crowd, the Toshiba Tablet offers changeable back plates in a “spectrum” of colours that makes us want to use words like ‘funky’ and ‘snazzy’ (albeit through gritted teeth).

It might have the least imaginative alliterative name since the Motorola Mobile (yes, we made that up), but it’s a solidly designed piece of kit that should help Toshiba establish a foothold in the crowded Android market.

Packing a 10.1-inch screen, Tegra 2 dual core power and Honeycomb on board, it’s virtually indistinguishable from rival tablets coming in this year.

Yet Toshiba has managed to add a few bonus features to ensure its debut device stands out from the crowd.

Aside from those ‘snazzy’ back plates, the tablet is dressed in a soft-to-the-touch Easy Grip surface (a rubberised, slip resistant coating) that mean it’s harder to drop your new prized possession.

Another feature that caught our eye was Toshiba’s Resolution+ video enhancement technology. Improving colour, contrast, and sharpness automatically, the software is designed to ‘upconvert’ standard definition video to near HD quality.

9) Acer Iconia Tab:-

Not everyone has more than half a grand lying around to splash out on technology so shiny you can see your overpaid face in it (yes you, you lucky devil).

That doesn’t mean those with slimmer wallets have to miss out on Honeycomb goodness.

Consider the Acer Iconia Tab, a smart-looking device from a reputable brand that’s still packing some reasonable specs at a sub £300 price point.

Available in 7-inch (A100) or 10.1-inch (A500) flavours, the models are reportedly rather chunky compared to their pricier brethren and still pack dual-core Tegra 2 processors.

10) Dell Gallo :-

Despite being about as pocket-friendly as carrying a dinner plate around with your wallet, the 5-inch screened Dell Streak [pictured] was a modestly successful Android phone.

The PC giant has yet to officially announce its first Honeycomb tablets but a leaked roadmap of forthcoming products suggested the first, the Gallo, would arrive in April.

It hasn’t, although it should land in the near future, with three further models to arrive later in the year - the Sterling, Opus One, and Silver Oak (possibly with a ‘tree bark’ back plate).

Tech specs are, currently, non-existent but Dell has built a brand on providing well-specced machines at relatively low costs, so we are cautiously optimistic that they will at least compare favourably with the other products above.

While Dell is not a manufacturer whose products get techy-fiends hot-under-the-collar, their ubiquity in households means mainstream consumers might warm more readily to these tablet’s charms - bringing more folk to the friendly Android fold.

Android Ice Cream Sandwich Coming to Sony Tablets

Android Ice Cream Sandwich Coming to Sony Tablets

Sony has announced that its tablets, the Tablet S and Tablet P, will receive upgrades to Google's Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

The tech giant, however, isn't yet saying when Ice Cream Sandwich will hit its tablets, of which only the Tablet S is on sale.

The Tablet S, which features a tapered shape resembling a rolled-back magazine and a 9.4-inch touch screen, went on sale in September at a price of $500.

Sony quietly confirmed a forthcoming Ice Cream Sandwich update for its Tablet S and Tablet P devices last week through its online community forum. This is not Sony's first ICS announcement, as the company divulged plans to roll out Android 4.0 for its Sony Ericsson Xperia Phones starting in March.

We got our hands on the Sony Tablet S and were impressed by the comfortable, ergonomic design. Lead mobile analyst Sascha Segan described it as "one of the best-looking Android tablets around" with its wedge-shaped, magazine-like design.

But the media giant's tablet failed to wow us when it came to performance, features, and content offerings. Ultimately, the Sony Tablet S came up short when compared with top-selling tablets like the Apple iPad 2 and the Amazon Kindle Fire.

Currently, Samsung's Galaxy Nexus smartphone is the only device on the market running Google's latest mobile OS, but companies like LG have been jumping on the ICS bandwagon, announcing their own plans for software updates to various devices.

Thus far, phones have been the major players in the Ice Cream Sandwich race, but tablet news is also starting to heat up. Earlier this month, Google promised an Android tablet of "the highest quality" in the next sixth months. Google made its intentions clear, targeting tablet juggernaut Apple and promising a "brutal competition" between the two companies.

Ice Cream Sandwich update announcements have been a bit of a mess for smartphone and tablet manufacturers alike. Many device makers have balked when it comes to the new OS—case in point, Samsung's announcement earlier this month that Android 4.0, when combined with the company's TouchWiz UI enhancements, proves too much for the 1GHz Cortex A8-powered Galaxy S line, which would therefore not be upgraded. Backlash from customers, however, has reportedly motivated Samsung to "investigate ways to try and make it work."

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Review - Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Features

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Review

Are you looking for a better tablet that can allow you to work the way you want? There is a tablet war going out in the market especially between Samsung and Apple and that is exactly why the consumers are confused as to which tablet they should buy. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is definitely Samsung’s reply to Apple iPad and they have tried every possible option to make sure that people now switch to Samsung Galaxy Tab rather than using the expensive Apple iPad which lacks certain features that can be convenient to the consumers.

Let’s take a quick look at some of the features of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1:

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Hardware

People who are not aware about the specification of the tablet will definitely get blown away by the hardware on the outside. Samsung has tried best to keep the outside hardware as sleek as possible and therefore the hardware is really good when you hold the tablet in your hand. It has a glossy white back with the logo of Android robot. This is the first Honeycomb tablet that Samsung has come up with and it is definitely thinner than iPad 2 which is again a major blow to Apple as buyers prefer slimmer tablets. The tablet is easy to handle and it is not as bulky as other Android 3.0 tablets available in the market.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Features

To make the entire tablet experience better for the consumers, Samsung has decided to keep the power and volume controls on the top. On the top right side you will find the 3.4mm headphone jack. There are no buttons on the side so that you can hold the tablet without pressing any buttons accidentally. However, there are speakers on the side for clear audio. The screen is the most striking feature of the Tab and you can compare it well with Samsung HDTV if you have one at home or you can cross check it within the store. Hence, you can definitely watch HD movies on your new tablet. The screen resolution is better than Motorola Xoom and very much on the same lines as iPad 2. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 comes with Dolby technology for better audio.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Features Interface

Interface is really important because that will decide how quickly you can make use of the options available on Samsung’s tablet. To be simple and precise, the interface is very much the same as in earlier Samsung tablet models. Samsung has claimed that major changes in user interface will only happen in 3.1 version of operating system so users will have to wait if they are interested in some change of user interface.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Features Apps

The merger between Samsung and Google has made it easier for the people to make use of Android market on Samsung tablets. In this one too, users can make use of the Android market through the App Store but most of the apps are the same as in earlier tablets. There are not many apps available in the Android market which are designed for 3.0 version and therefore users will have to wait for it. However, you can go ahead and install the apps that can be used on smartphones, but they will not look good on a bigger screen as these smartphone apps are designed for smaller screens.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Features Performance

When it comes to performance, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 performs better than any other tablet in the market and almost on par with iPad 2. It has 1GHz Tegra 2 processor and 1280 x 800 screen resolutions. The web performance on Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is certainly better and therefore users will enjoy faster browsing experience with this new tablet. The video uploads are also quicker and therefore some users will definitely enjoy the quick performance of Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablet.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Features Software
The software inside the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is definitely better than the earlier versions because the entire tablet experience is quick and without any delays. The software allows users to handle all the widgets and Android based apps without any problems and it also supports a host of USB accessories. The software also contributes to the overall performance of the tablet but the improvement is very marginal. However, Samsung can rectify these problems with some software update so that should not be a problem for the buyers.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Features Camera

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 comes with 3.0 megapixel camera at the back but the quality of pictures is not very impressive and therefore Samsung will need to work on that because consumers would certainly like to have better picture quality which would keep them happy.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Features Conclusion

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is definitely the best Honeycomb tablet available in the market at the moment. However, there are minor issues that Samsung will have to look out for like providing better apps for 3.0 in Android Market and the camera quality. The tablet is really good when it comes to screen quality and the Music Beta option is just an equivalent of iTunes Cloud which is good. Samsung is now trying to reach into new areas that is making Android tablet sector more interesting than ever before.
